Stoke is one of a cluster of towns in central England known collectively as “The Potteries”. As the British economy moved away from manufacturing, Stoke and other Potteries towns were left in stark post-industrial decline. The pottery-making bottle kilns that once characterised the townscape were gradually dismantled and great holes were left in the urban fabric. As a result of this, the town’s urban fabric started to lose its shape and identity creating urban gaps. 'New Life for Stoke Town' is an urban regeneration project aimed at reviving the town's lost identity and soul by adopting an unique, creative and holistic design approach.
